Festivals

Exemplary Soloist Recognition Project
The Exemplary Solo Recognition Project expands recognition of outstanding soloists at the WSMA State Festival. Adjudicators select the most exceptional student soloists at each of the state festival sites. This spring, state festival adjudicators identified 445 truly exemplary soloists.

Festival Committees Meeting
The WSMA Festival Committees will be meeting Thursday, June 14 to review festival rules, procedures and bring member concerns to the Festivals Steering Committee and WSMA Board of Directors for possible action. If you have a suggestion or recommendation that you would like brought forward, please contact the committee chair directly. Contact information may be found here.

State Honors Music Project

Middle Level State Honors
Chair Lynn Seidl and the selection committee have announced invitations to the 2007 Middle Level Honors ensembles. Louis Bergonzi (orchestra director), Randy Pagel (choral director) and James Ripley (band director) have selected a variety of traditional and contemporary music for the October 27 concert.

Accepted applications are due no later than Friday, July 13. Students will rehearse at Waunakee High School on Friday, October 26 and on Saturday, October 27 at the Marriott Madison-West. Additional information may be found here.

High School State Honors
More than 400 talented musicians, 40 staff and five conductors are all making plans to be at UW-Green Bay for the beginning of the 2007 High School State Honors Music Project. The band and mixed choir camp runs from June 16-19 and the orchestra, treble choir and jazz ensemble camp runs from June 20-23.

Students and staff will spend their time preparing high quality literature with nationally known conductors. Their dedicated practice and preparation will be for a pretigious performance during the 2007 Wisconsin State Music Conference held in Madison this October. Additional information may be found here.

State Marching Band Championships

New Festival Marching Band Class
Plans are being made for a new marching band class as a part of the 2007 WSMA State Marching Band Championships, which will be held in Whitewater on October 20. This new class will be for bands looking to be a part of the marching band experience, but non-competitive. Bands will be rated much like the concert festivals by a team of three adjudicators and will receive awards based on a standard rubric form.

For more information on this new festival class or the WSMA State Marching Band Championships, please contact Tim Wurgler.
