Registration Opens Soon April auditions for Middle Level State Honors will be held at several locations across Wisconsin. Teachers may register students for auditions online from Tuesday, December 9, 2008 until 11 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2009. A worksheet to assist in gathering student registration information may be downloaded from the site. New this year, the worksheet includes "frequently asked questions," which will assist in explaining the project to prospective students and parents. 2009 conductors include Steve Amundson-orchestra, Henry Leck-choir and James Swearingen-band. Additional Middle Level State Honors details will be included in the next Updater. |

WSMA honored the winners of its 20th annual WSMA/DPI Student Composition Project on October 30 at the Wisconsin State Music Conference in Madison. Seventeen students from across the state were recognized for their creative musical work during an awards ceremony at the keynote session. WSMA is calling on music teachers to encourage bands formed outside the classroom to apply by February 4 for participation in Launchpad -- the statewide alternative music competition for high school students. The Wisconsin Center for Music Education is offering a variety of professional development workshops with graduate credit available, including two online courses and several video conferences. All of the winter and spring workshops have distance learning options, alleviating the need to travel far for professional development. |
