High School State Honors
 

Apply Now - Deadline is 11 p.m., Friday, December 5
To complete the online application process, you'll need your students' personal contact information, their email address, voice/instrument, and audition date and location preference. Auditions will take place on Saturday, February 7 at Eau Claire, Waukesha and Appleton and Saturday, February 14 at Stevens Point, La Crosse, Middleton and Milwaukee. Remember to print and mail the invoice with $19 payment for each audition. Apply now...

Middle Level State Honors
 

Registration Opens Soon
April auditions for Middle Level State Honors will be held at several locations across Wisconsin. Teachers may register students for auditions online from Tuesday, December 9, 2008 until 11 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2009. A worksheet to assist in gathering student registration information may be downloaded from the site. New this year, the worksheet includes "frequently asked questions," which will assist in explaining the project to prospective students and parents.

2009 conductors include Steve Amundson-orchestra, Henry Leck-choir and James Swearingen-band.

Additional Middle Level State Honors details will be included in the next Updater.
Festivals
 

Rule Changes
2008-2009 rules changes and reminders may be reviewed in the WSMA Handbook, or online. Festival questions can be directed to Jeff Gretzinger, Tim Wurgler or Richard Fellenz via email or by calling the WSMA office at 1-800-589-9762 or 608-850-3566.

Teacher Online Data Entry
WSMA Teacher Online Data Entry is available through the "Member Schools Login" area of the web site. Access to January-April Solo & Ensemble Festivals will be available beginning December 15, 2008. Revisions for the current festival season include assistance in entering music theater events and revised emergency time request options for district festivals. Your WSMA school code and WSMA member password are necessary to gain access to this area of the web site. Quick-Start instructions may also be downloaded from the site.

Adjudicator Workshop
Mark your calendar and register now (pdf) for the adjudicator workshop at the Wisconsin Center for Music Education in Waunakee on January 24!

Student Composition Project
 

WSMA honored the winners of its 20th annual WSMA/DPI Student Composition Project on October 30 at the Wisconsin State Music Conference in Madison. Seventeen students from across the state were recognized for their creative musical work during an awards ceremony at the keynote session.

Launchpad
 

Established by Wisconsin Foundation for School Music, Launchpad has officially become a WSMA program beginning this year! WSMA is calling on music teachers to encourage bands formed outside the classroom to apply by February 4 for participation in Launchpad -- the statewide alternative music competition for high school students. Help celebrate the reach of music education with Launchpad.
New! Parade Marching Showcase
 

WSMA and Wisconsin State Fair proudly introduce the "Parade Marching Showcase" -- a first-of-its-kind street marching competition at the state fair in West Allis. Mark your calendar now for Sunday, August 16, 2009 and enter your marching band to be part of this new tradition. Upcoming Workshops
 

Earn graduate credit at or close to home! The Wisconsin Center for Music Education is offering a variety of professional development workshops with graduate credit available, including two online courses and several video conferences. All of the winter and spring workshops have distance learning options, alleviating the need to travel far for professional development.
WSMA Income & Expenses Overview
 

WSMA is dedicated to providing programs and opportunities for students enrolled in member schools. Member dues and fees help fund programs and costs associated with the administration of these programs.
