3. Do we get any free time?

Please bring along appropriate free time activities. (Remember, all free time activities should be appropriate.) Cards, games and things like that would be allowed. Various free recreation options will also be available to all students during free time.
4. When do I get my Honors T-shirts?
Special edition Wisconsin High School State Honors Project T-shirts will be given to students and staff at Camp Registration. Please keep your shirts with you at Honors Camp so it can be worn for your Honors group photo.
5. What about parking on campus?
If you drive your car to Honors Camp, you MAY need to obtain an on-campus parking permit. Stop at the UWGB Parking office (Enter through the main entrance. Look for signs for the Parking Office - located just off Nicolet Dr.) The parking permit will cost $3.00. There is no parking permit required for parents unloading/loading luggage, nor is there any parking permit required to attend the Honors “Work-in-Progress” Concerts.
6. When I arrive for camp, where do I register?
When you arrive on campus, report to the Studio Arts Cafeteria area to check in. (Do NOT bring luggage into the cafeteria. After you register you will then take it to the dorm). Instrumentalists will be able to leave their instruments here while they get settled in their dorm rooms. Dorms are a short drive (or walk). See the attached campus map. Honors Band and Orchestra students have the option of auditioning before getting settled in their dorm room, depending on your audition and travel times. Also, because summer is “construction season” on many Wisconsin roads, it’s a good idea to find out the latest road construction information from the State Patrol or the Internet.
7. Where do I pick up my child after the Honors “Work-in-Progress” Concert?
Orchestra, Mixed Choir, Treble Choir, Band parents – Lobby of University Theater. Jazz Ensemble parents – Lobby of Fort Howard Hall near covered entrance of the Weidner Center Students will be in rehearsal from approximately 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. the day of the concert. If possible, please pick up your student’s luggage before their concert.
8. Can I request a roommate?
No. Most Honors students do not know any one else when they arrive on campus. Part of this experience is getting to know someone from a different part of the state. Roommates are assigned to make sure this happens. You’ll have a new set of best friends when you leave Honors Camp, and a broader perspective on life!
9. Will I get my music before camp?
No – all WSMA High School State Honors Students sight read their music at Honors Camp. You’ll learn together with the best high school musicians in our state. The “Work-in-Progress” concert is exactly that, and all of you will be very impressed with the result of it, and we know you’ll work very hard during Honors Camp to earn that sense of pride.
10. Will I receive an Honors Summer Camp daily schedule?
No. Schedules often need to be adjusted to meet conductor needs and facility requirements. Plan on being in rehearsal morning, afternoon and evening. You’ll have some free time most late afternoons. Someone from the Honors staff will make important announcements at the end of every rehearsal. Thanks in advance for your help and cooperation.

The Wisconsin School Music Association challenges youth to achieve excellence through music. Each year, WSMA proudly serves more than 200,000 students in Wisconsin public and private schools through a variety of programs including: WSMA Music Festivals, State Honors Music Project, State Marching Band Championships, and the Student Composition Project.
WSMA derives its primary support from school memberships and fees directly related to activities for students. However, as participation by students, costs, and demand for new services has been on the rise, and school budget increases are capped in Wisconsin, student participation is often limited by schools to reduce costs. The Wisconsin Foundation for School Music actively seeks your support to ensure the future of quality music opportunities for Wisconsin students. All gifts are tax-deductible. There are numerous donation opportunities. If you are interested in helping, please visit us at: www.wsmamusic.org/foundation.
